About Safia Vintage
Brooke fell in love with handmade vintage carpets when she worked in Afghanistan in early 2015 for an aid organization supporting Afghan women to launch small businesses and gain independence from their husbands. Brooke spent countless hours drinking tea with rug shop owners and learned the intricacies of Afghan carpets - how they are made, the meaning of specific designs and symbols and the way the tradition is passed down to each generation.
Several months later, Brooke traveled to the Kurdish Region of Iraq. She loved the vibrant Kurdish-style rugs as well as the coveted Persian rugs. In the span of one week Brooke sold over 100 rugs to her network of friends via social media. As a result of her friends' enthusiasm for the rugs and her desire to contribute to market-based economic development in countries like Afghanistan, Iraq and Morocco, Brooke decided to found Safia Vintage.
Now everyone can access these one-of-a-kind creations that are sure to add character and warmth to your home. Each rug has a unique story and your purchase directly contributes to a woman, a family and a community in some of the most isolated and conflict-affected parts of the world. Safia Vintage is not a charity or aid organization; at Safia Vintage, we aim to support artisans to do what they love and know how to do: make beautiful carpets that the rest of the world treasures.
